why not are proud to exhibit a number of works in the igdb6 international graphic design biennial in ningbo, china. the exhibition runs from 30 december, 2010 to 16 january, 2011 at the ningbo museum of art and includes work from leading designers from all over the world. the theme of the exhibition was "critical graphic design" and david ellis attended the opening ceremony and gave a lecture to attendees on the 8th january.

this week-end at the international advertising festival in kinsale, ireland, our promos for bbc radio 4's the today programme were awarded three sharks. a silver was received for best radio programme series promotion and a silver and a bronze for best news, current affairs, factual promo. the promos were created in collaboration with creative agency red bee media with illustrations by paul davies, dave foldvari and billie jean.

last night the london college of fashion launched pigeons and peacocks, a magazine designed by us and published by the college. the launch party took place at bistrotheque in hackney. in the words of a vogue editor who was there "last night london was most definately cocktails with cool umbrellas, corona and scotch eggs and jellied eels."

we've been nominated for a bafta award with our title sequence for life on mars. the british academy of film and television arts rewards excellence in the artform of moving image and the craft awards are specifically instated to honour the creators behind the scenes of television and new media. the craft bafta award ceremony will take place on the 11th of may.

the language of football
we are in the process of creating two new promos for the bbc's language of football campaign. along with this we're also designing a series of posters and beermats to advertise bbc's mobile services at local football clubs.

we're working with nike to visualize a new football boot to be launched in may 2008. our work will result in posters and a film to be displayed in niketown and with nike's retailers throughout europe, middle east and africa. more news will follow.

tate galleries have asked us to design the marketing material for two of their upcoming exhibitions; a retrospect of francis bacon's work at tate britian opening the 11th of september and a presentation of some of mark rothko's last works opening at tate modern on the 26th of september.

a belgian canvas
we've just completed a dramatic channel re-brand for belgian tv channel canvas. after winning the project in a six way pitch we worked closely with the team at vrt in brussels to create this confident, new look and feel for the channel. our solution is a bold progression for this well established brand and one that well reflects the canvas ethos. the press launch took place in brussles yesterday with a televised interview of andy altmann and the new canvas will launch on-air on the 7th of january.

ashes to ashes
kudos are following up their bbc hit series life on mars with the sequel ashes to ashes and we're doing the titles. this time the lead character is female and played by keeley hawes (spooks). her name is di alex drake and she's taken back from 2008 to 1981. she gets thrown together with dci gene hunt and his team who are now based in london. the new titles are taking shape and looks set to be both contemporary and inspired by the styles ofthe 80's. the show will be broadcast on bbc one earlly next year.

echo beach and moving wallpaper
we spent a very excitig and intense day this summer filming the main cast of itv's groundbreaking new seaside soap echo beach. the result is a title sequence with chicks, surfers, a topless jason donovan and a dancing martine mccutcheon. the project was commissioned by kudos who have also produced the show's sister series moving wallpaper which is a comedy show about the making of echo beach. we've designed the logos and titles for both shows. the first episiode will premiere on itv1 on the 10th of january at 9pm and 9:30 respectively.

website for rosemary butcher
our website for influential, british choreographer and dance artist rosemary butcher has just been launched. this greatly anticipated showcase of butcher's work has been almost a year in the making due to the extensivene size of her archive. it comprises many unseen films and images dating back to the early 1970's when she started her career as a dancer in new york. the site contains a selection of images and films, as well as texts, news and information about rosemary's work as both teacher and an artist. visit the site at rosemarybutcher.com

after two joyful and successful years of designing a range of marketing material for london college of fashion we've just pitched and won the project for another two year period. we are looking forward to evolving the designs and to keep collaborating with the great team at the college.

wall of wishes
in collaboration with artist gordon young we have created a wall of wishes at the newly opened brunel academy in bristol. wishes expressed by the school's pupils have been inscribed into pieces of marble and installed at the school's entrance hall. prime minister grodon brown attended the inauguration of the academy this week and decided to pronounce his own wish "that every child could enjoy the best possible start in life". as part of the same project we also created a huge pendant neon sign spelling out the words "dream" & "aspire".

to promote bbc's national and regional coverage of the new football season we have created a series of promos for red bee media. using typographic animation, the language of bbc's reknowned football commentators is illustrated on football pitches of memorable moments from last season.

after a successful five way pitch we were commissioned to re-brand belgian broadcasting service vrt news. the new identity which spans web, tv and print is due to be launced in january 2008.

royal academy's summer exhibition
we're designing the posters for the royal academy’s summer exhibition. the show is the world’s largest open submission contemporary art exhibition and showcases work by unknown artists alongside that of more established names. the summer exhibition attracts about 9,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, prints and architectural models. the theme of this year's show is light and the majority of works are for sale. the show is open between the 11th of june and the 19th of august 2007.

millais exhibition
we are designing the posters and exhibition material for tate britain's forthcoming exhibition on millais. millais was the greatest painter and founding member of the pre-raphaelite brotherhood, which burst upon the british artistic scene in the mid-19th century. this is the first major solo survey of his art since the royal academy retrospective of 1967, and the first exhibition since 1898 that examines the entirety of his career. the exhibition is held between the 26 of september and 13th of january 2008.

new brand for brussels palais de congres
brussels conference centre palais de congres are in the process of a large renovation project and we have just helped them to re-brand as square. the new brand represents the very modern and international new meeting place in the centre of brussels. square is due to open in 2009 and the first public event at square will take place on the 27th of may 2007. visit the new website to find out more. square-brussels.eu

holby blue
we've created the titles and logo for new bbc police drama holby blue. the series is a slick relation to casualty and holby city featuring actress zoe lucker. the project was commissioned by red planet productions and kudos. key clips from the series have been combined with specifically filmed footage and motion graphics. the eight part drama series is broadcast on bbc one on tuesday nights.

carte d'or ice cream commercial
working with advertising agency mccann erickson and food director gus filgate we have created a tv commercial for wall's carte d'or strawberry and yoghurt delice. the commercial which is inspired by a lonely hearts advert features bold typographic animation with beautifully shot ice cream to a summery bossa-nova version of the signature carte d'or tune.

our recent public art commission with gordon young, pobl + machines, has been selected by both creative review and tokyo type director's club to be featured in their respective 2007 annual. tokyo tdc will also feature our project blackpool climbing towers and has nominated both projects for a typographic award.

the truth isn't sexy in the houses of parliement
the truth isn't sexy is a campaign devised to raise awareness about sex trafficking. working with the campaign team and copywriter vicki maguire we have designed a series of beer mats with eye catching imagery featuring sexy girls and provocative text on the front and shocking, true stories of girls caught up in sex trafficking on the reverse. a parliamentary launch of the campaign is taking place on the 20th of march to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. the beer mats will be distributed in pubs and student unions nationwide.

walk of art completed
it's been five years in the making and now the final plate is being typeset and laid at yorkshire sculpture park. in collaboration with artist gordon young we have designed a one hundred meter pathway of names in chequered steel. the project was a fund raising venture with the idea that visitors would pay to have their names inscribed in the path and it's been so successful that the park is now investigating options to somehow extend it.

nike flagship store, paris
nike have opened a flagship store on the champs elysees in paris which is full of why not designs. based around nike's history we've created a typographic lift, graphic and typographic shoe walls and a wall of historic nike t-shirts. we've also designed changing rooms with quotes from athletes and huge glass walls featuring athletes with typography knocked out of their bodies.

climbing tower in blackpool
as part of the regeneration of blackpool our long time collaborator artist gordon young was commissioned to build a sign post on the town's central drive. the outcome is a set of 20 metre high twin towers made of black concrete and white granite, especially prepared for climbing. we designed the climbable letters inset in one of the towers which form the name blackpool.

3 minute wonders for channel 4
why not produced four short films with choreographer rosemary butcher for channel 4. the films are a quartet of 3 minute wonders, featuring solo dancer elena giannotti performing hidden voices, originally created by butcher for the place prize 2004. in the words of channels 4's commissioning editor "it's like watching a piece of art on television".
